How I Create Realistic Ocean Paintings – New YouTube Video
Share
In my newest YouTube video, I walk through my full painting process for creating a realistic seascape, starting with an acrylic underpainting and finishing in oil. Using acrylic first helps establish proportions and color placement so I can build realistic detail faster once I switch to oils. I focus closely on matching the colors from my reference photo. I blend carefully to keep highlights bright and transitions clean without over-blending or muddying the paint.
A big part of realism comes from layering texture and subtle color shifts. In this painting, I added many fine lines and tonal variations in the water to create the illusion of movement. If you’re interested in learning how to paint more realistically, you can watch the full process on my YouTube channel for step-by-step tips and techniques.
If you love this painting, you can also explore my available original paintings and limited edition prints here on my website. Each piece is inspired by where I live on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Whether you’re collecting artwork or learning to paint yourself, I’m grateful you’re here and hope this work inspires you!
